Problem: Why are databases on a separate server (e.g.
file server) from the web server are not recognized by RWP?
Background Information: All NT processes must run under
the context of a user-account. Microsoft recommends that public
(Web) processes be run in an account other than the system account
and for this reason we create the IRWP_WEBPOSTER account. This
account is created locally at the time of install on the webserver
and will not be registered in the security database with either
the PDC (NT Network) or the appropriate Novell Server by default.
Solution: Start by creating an NT Domain
Account. This will become the new security context that RWP operates
under. The next step will be to assign specific permissions to
the directory that the databases will reside in. The new account
should be specified explicitly (i.e. not relying on the 'Everyone'
group as in NT) with RXW permission to the database folder on
the file-server. RWP will not write to the database but will need
to create a temporary index file for it in the directory. Proceeding
to the webserver (make sure RWP status is OFF before doing this)
go to START>RUN and type dcomcnfg. Select the RISWSrvr.Application
from the list of applications and click on PROPERTIES. Go to the
IDENTITY tab and make sure the THIS USER is the option selected.
Now BROWSE for the domain user, type the password, and click on
OK. Upon reloading the databases and reactivating RWP you should
be able to access the databases again.
